Pair of carnelian leg and feet amulets, the ankles, toes and underfeet markings delineated, pierced through horizontally, front to back, for suspension.
Additionally, the leg and foot represent the hieroglyphic symbol for the letter ‘B’.
During the Old Kingdom and First Intermediate Period, small amulets of hands and feet were commonly included in bracelets and anklets. These amulets protected the limbs and extremities of their wearers. The red-orange color, reminiscent of blood, would bring power and energy to the amulet.
cf. Andrews, C.; Amulets of Ancient Egypt, p. 71, no. 74e and 74g, for parallels.
