Light blue faience shabti for the Governor of Upper Egypt, Ankh-Hor, wearing a false beard, tripartite wig and a seed bag over his left shoulder, the front and entire back covered with hieroglyphs from Chapter VI of the Book of the Dead, the nine lower back rows of hieroglyphs divided at the center with double vertical lines.

Ankh-hor was Chief Steward of the Divine Votress Nitocris I (daughter of Psammetichus I), Great Mayor of Memphis, Overseer of Upper Egypt in Thebes and Overseer of the Priests of Amun during the reigns of Psamtek II and Apries. His tomb (TT414) is the fourth largest in the Theban necropolis at Asasif and one of a series built at the end of the Third Intermediate Period for high officials in the estates of the God's Wives of Amun. As Chief Steward of Nitocris, he would have been one of the most important and wealthiest men in Egypt.

Formerly in the collection of Rodney Davidson (1933-2016), Melbourne, Australia. From the late 1940s, Mr. Davidson developed an interest in books that documented Australia’s early history, during his travels to the middle east and abroad his interest extended beyond books and into artifacts. In recognition of his public service to the heritage of the Nation he was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1974 and in 1989 was made an Officer in the Order of Australia (AO). To many, Rodney was an inspiration as a collector, connoisseur, and protector of history.
