Turquoise-blue in color, the double-sided counterpoise Menat decorated with an inner groove and a ribbed suspension ring above. Mounted
The Menat was used as a counterpoise, usually hung on a necklace at the back of the neck. This protective amulet was common practice from the New Kingdom to the Ptolemaic Period.
Formerly in the Dr. & Mrs. Goddard DuBois Collection, excavated in Egypt between 1900-1907. The DuBois collection was loaned to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the 1920s-1930s, then to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts where it was exhibited for another 20 years until its final exhibition at the San Diego Museum of Man. Several works from their collection remain at the Met Museum, the MFA, and the Museum of Man.
