Bichrome glazed faience composition spherical bead of alternating turquoise and dark-blue pigment, pierced for suspension.
These balls first appeared in the Middle Kingdom, as depicted on a relief in the tomb of Baqet II, Beni Hassan, where a group of young girls are shown playing ball (Link). Other evident uses are spacer beads or votive offerings. Similar examples have been excavated in and around Hathor’s temple at Faras.
