The blue glazed composition baboon-headed god, sacred to the moon god Thoth, depicted squatting, the elongated snout with finely incised mouth and nostrils, recessed eyes beneath prominent arched brows, and wearing a full mummiform garment, his cape-like mass of fur composed of echeloned vertically-striated lappets against a horizontally-striated ground on either side.
Thoth, later identified by the Greeks with Hermes, was the Lord of Time, of writing, knowledge and wisdom.
