A rare alabaster human-headed funerary amulet, conical in form, wearing a tripartite wig, representing the heart.

Heart amulets are among the most important funerary amulets of the ancient Egyptians, for whom the heart was the seat of intelligence, knowledge and memory. During the judgment of the dead which the deceased had to go through before he could enter the realm of Osiris. Spell 30 B from the Book of the Dead urged the heart not to stand up as a witness against its owner during this trial, and this spell was often written on a heart scarab or on a heart-shaped amulet and placed on the chest of the mummy.

Formerly in the collection of the late Julian Bird (inv. no 746). Julian Bird was an avid collector of Egyptian antiquities. His collection was formed from the 1970s onwards, mainly from the UK market.

Condition:
Break at the tip with chip at the back bottom, minor chip at the back of the wig, overall a very fine example.
