The red jasper, flat oval gem depicts the god of medicine, Asklepios, standing and facing his daughter Hygeia, while the little figure of the dwarf Telesphoros stands in between. Groundline.
In this particular example, Asklepios is shown leaning on his caduceus wearing a loose garment wrapped around his shoulders and his lower body baring his torso and feet. Hygeia is shown with long hair and a long garment partly held on her left arm, her right hand stretched forward to feed her serpent from a patera. Telesphoros is shown draped and standing at the center facing forward with a determined air.
French Art Market, 2010.
